The most difficult exams are pretty easier than LIFE. LIFE puts us through exams which have no syllabus , no fixed date and time. When we look back and sometimes say to ourselves “OHH this might be the syllabus of the exam I went through ” .
LORD Krishna in Bhagawad Gita says
” कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। “
Translation : You have the right to perform your actions, but you are not entitled to the fruits of the actions.
If given a chance I want to ask the LORD leave alone the fruits , are these so-called actions determined by you or by my tiny brain . I am not advocating fatalism here but simply trying to figure out the surprises LIFE throws at me . Even the toughest of EXAMS like CAT , MAT , IIT-JEE , MEDICAL ENTRANCE etc, etc have a specific pattern . They are static in the sense that they are predictable . LIFE , on the contrary is hell-bent on robbing you of everything . It sucks away the so-called element of predictability. This Mr.KRISHNA goes on to say
” मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥”
Translation : Do not let the fruit be the purpose of your actions, and therefore you won’t be attached to not doing your duty.
Damn it , what are you saying let me understand the duties first , the so-called results , fruits and attachment to duty are completely out of sight . In this kind of LIFE where every step is an exam , where every wind trembles each inch of our muscle I wonder how the hell Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill thought of seeking pleasures . Of course there is no dearth in INDIA of such pleasure seekers , the Charavaka philosophy says
” Yavat jivet, sukham jivet, rinam kritva ghritam pibet “
Translation: Live so long you have a life and live with all comforts and luxury (like eating butter) even if you have to take a loan
I think either there is a manufacturing defect with these fellows or their skin is made up of superior quality ‘Spanish’ Buffalo skin .
Everyone tries to comfort us by saying don’t pay attention to your difficulties they will wane away with time , I would like to ask IS IT SO ??? . Don’t you find every footstep is a footfall . We don’t really tend to forget our wounds it’s just that the material success diverts our attention . Something like the crying child’s attention gets diverted when he gets a new toy .
Now it’s the time to close as the atmosphere I have created here is very much depressing , but I want to close on a more positive note that I hope and wish to see a gem in each and every soul in the universe every time it goes through a difficulty .
As the great ( another MAHAANUBHAV) Confucius says
” The gem cannot be polished without friction , nor man perfected without trials “
Of course , the trials here are not the present day trials , nonetheless lalu prasad , JAYA AMMA (u-know-who 🙂 ) and Mr.Raja would all be considered gems .
